Gilbert Leong is a senior partner in Rodyk IP.
Gilbert has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements in relation to distribution of goods/services, procurement and tenders, manufacturing arrangements, acquisition of hardware, software development, licensing, maintenance, acquisition of intellectual property such as trademark and patents, computer turnkey projects, consultancy services, IP structuring, Internet related transactions cloud computing and E-commerce. Gilbert also provides advice on aspects of joint ventures, alliances and mergers & acquisitions.
He has also been counsel to parties involved in the telecommunication industry. In particular, he has advised on disputes arising as between telecommunication licensees, application for licences, market access and infrastructural issues. Gilbert has also been very active in the field of data privacy/protection matters, having acted for large financial institutions, healthcare providers, and industrial companies. He has also written and spoken widely on the area. As a member of the Legal Sub-Committee of the National Internet Advisory Committee, Gilbert participated in the drafting to the “Model Data Protection Code for the Private Sector”.
Gilbert’s IP litigation experience includes copyright (software) suits, patent infringements as well as obtaining and executing search & seizure warrants. Additionally, he has prosecuted parties under a fiat from the Attorney General for offences under both the Trade Marks Act and Copyright Act. Gilbert also attends to hearings before the Trade Mark registry.
In addition to his legal qualifications, Gilbert also holds a Certificate in Computer Programming and Information Processing from the City & Guilds of London Institute. Gilbert has authored numerous articles and given speeches on a variety of intellectual property rights, technology issues and electronic commerce.
Gilbert was also a member of several technology-focused think tanks in Singapore.

- Government owned entity: Advising and acting for the entity in the relation to various national IT projects
- Public sector healthcare institutions: Advising various institutions in their acquisition of different IT systems
- IT services provider: Advising the client on the building and implementation of a data centre
- Leading bank: Advising on and negotiating in a multi-year, multi-million dollar IT outsourcing project. This is likely the largest IT outsourcing commitment in Singapore
- Private hospital in Singapore: Advising and acting for the client in relation to their acquisition of a hospital information system, property management system and systems integration
- Leading global service accommodation provider: Advising and acting for the client in connection with their property management and booking systems
- Leading vendor of healthcare informatics products/services:Advising and acting for the client in a variety of transactions
- Integrated Resort:Advising and acting on their various IT systems and equipment acquisitions. The transactions ranged from infrastructure building, to hardware procurement, front of house and backroom systems and IT services. A total of 13 engagements in 14 months
- Global, listed ship owner/operator:Advising and acting on the relocation and migration of their global IT network. Also acted for this client in their acquisition of a replacement CRM system
- Leading global IT services provider:Advising in connection with a multiyear “IT As A Service” contract (for hosting, data centre and IT managed services) between itself and a leading multinational logistics company
- Global IT solutions provider:Acting for the client in the negotiating of an agreement to be appointed sub-contractor in a public-private partnership project to implement an egovernment services platform
- Full service eCommerce enabler:Advising on alternate business models for its ecommerce portal and data protection issues relating to the personal data of customers.
- JTC:Providing legal advice and counsel as a member of the consortium advising the client in relation to the telecommunications needs at One North
- Leading Singapore telecommunications equipment manufacturer:Advising and acting in relation to the design, manufacture and support of telecommunications equipment for a large telco operating in the Americas
- Infinity Consortium:Acting as counsel to the client in their bid for the NetCo licence of the National Broadband Network
